De Spaghetti- Marcus & Khairi(1E1B)



  • Colour

Combination of dark colours such as green,brown and yellow.



  • Appearance

I have to agree that the presentation is messy as we were in a rush. Our idea was to put the toppings around the curled up spaghetti for a better presentation.



  • Taste

The spaghetti is soft and the toppings are also delicious. Although the presentation is messy,the taste is fantastic.



  • Smell

The smell is nice and mouth-watering.After the dish was done,I could not wait to try it because of is smell.



  • Strengths

We took turns to cut the ingredients,wash dishes,fry,throw rubbish and so on.We can work together as a group and can make good partners



  • Weaknesses

Our weaknesses are that we always want to cook by ourself.We wanted to do somethings ourself and not together.



  • In secondary 2,I would like to have more challenging dish as it would be more fun.

SPAGHETTI!:D















We chose spaghetti.


The colours: Red, yellow, green, brown, and white.

Red: The spaghetti sauce.

Yellow: The spahgetti.
Green: The green peppers.

Brown: The mushrooms.

White: The chicken.

The colours blended in very well as they were mostly warm colours. Warm colours give families a very warm feeling when they are having the meal.


The appearence: Spaghetti topped with spaghetti sauce, beside with a mushroom, piece of chicken and some green peppers, diced.



The taste: Spaghetti just cooked al dente, chicken is very tender, green peppers soft, but the mushrooms were a little undercook, and spaghetti sauce is sweet. The chicken is very tender because we cooked it for quite a long time for the chicken to become softer.


It is a very easy and fast to cook the meal for the whole family. The ingredients are also commmonly found in places, and you could also add different ingredients and seasonings.



Our weaknesses were that the spaghetti sauce was a little too sweet, and we undercooked the mushrooms.

Our strength was that we worked together as a team very well and finished the spaghetti on time.

Chinese fried rice :D





















We've chosen Chinese Fried Rice because it is easy to cook and the appearance is nice and sweet.


The appearence : chinese Fried rice colourfull with Brocollies as a decoration for the fried rice.
My weakness:Less amount of patience and teamwork.
Strength:Nice taste with flavouring
Having one bow; of Fried rice will be enough for a meal for a regular person:p

it this dish that i had choosen has lot of different textures .the crunchy ikan bilis to soft moist rice and watery egg and juicy chicken (as we add a bit of water )

it looks as it has lot of colour and seasonings we also decourate it with greens and brown chicken to make the people want to eat it

it taste good and i like the chicken as i lightly season it with black pepper and some salt also when i was frying the chicken i added some water with salt to make it taste good rather than a chicken with no taste to it





strengths





my partner and i are very good friends so we work very well with one and other and when she cooks i wash and when i cook she wash so i would say that we are one of the best teams that work together





weeknesses





we don't have much weeknesses but the only one i would say is that my parter cannot cook very well and had once forgotten to add the seasonings .





we would choose a dish more difficute dish when i am in sec 2 also we want to have more cooking lessons as we are not that good in it

Chinese Fried Rice







COLOUR: green yellow orange





TEXTURE: The rice is soft. the vegies are nice.





APPEARANCE: Nice looking and colourful





SMELL: It smell good.i can smell the rice.





TASTE: Nice taste.





WEAKNESSES: The meat is not nice to eat as it is too big and it is not cooked well.





STRENGTH:i added the equal amount of seasonings.





IMPROVEMENT: I will do better next year.

Our Spaghetti -- Harraz & Jordan(1E1B)



Our group decided on Spaghetti as it seems interesting and we have not cook it before.



  • Appearence:

As you can see from our image,our spaghetti looks red all over except for the chesse powder in the middle and the white plate.



  • Taste:

We tried our spaghetti and the chicken was bland..The cheese powder and the vegetables went well with the spaghetti.The spaghetti taste good even without the bland chicken.



  • Weakness:

The weakness of our spaghetti was the fact that most of our ingredients was burnt due to our slow cutting of it.



  • Strength:

Cheese power!



  • I think if we would work alone,it would be worse!:)We should try harder next time

Sensory Evalution






The Taste : It's simply awesomely delicious! You want to know why? Because we added brown nice which makes it chewy & chicken thats tender! Let me guess, you are drooling already, aren't you? :P












The Colour: There's green, orange, yellow, brown & white . :D












The Texture: It's chewy, tendered, not that dry but also not that wet its just nice. (:












The Appearance: It's decorateed with parselean around it & it has carrots that's orange , brown because of the brown rice and it has white & yellow because of the egg. & it's placed on a black plate that we had specially choosed. (:












The Smell: It smelled nice as we added fish sauce.












The Strengths: Joreen & I had a great time working together, we planned everything nicely, when i get the ingredients, she will get the utencils, while i go grab more, she cut the onions & carrots. when i am frying the rice, she would pass me the next ingredient needed to be fried. & also, while i was decorating the rice on the plate, she would wash & wipe the utencils. In conclusion, we had everything planned & on time. We also had great teamwork ! :D












The Weaknesses: we accidentally added too much oil as we were afraid that time catches up with us. We didn't control the fire and parts of the chicken was slightly burnt but afterall, it was still good.












In The Sec2 Years: i believe that we can learn to control the fire well and not panic and accidentally add too much oil again. We can also put in way more effort! (:












Nasi Lemak ~



I chose Nasi Lemak because Nasi lemak are simple to make and great to taste.



The appearance of the Nasi lemak is plain rice,topped with ikan bilies,Chicken breast and lots of cucumber.



The taste is Delicious and would be the perfect lunch for the day as i added some seasoning and put in alot of hard work into it.



The texture of the rice is rather soft and steamy and it almost melts in your mouth if you had tasted it.The texture for the chicken is soft, chewy and rather tasty also.



None of my friends tasted it as me and my partner had finished it as it was tasty.



My Strengths are Good time management,Overall of the dish were a success.



My weakness are bad presentation

I will improve my presentation and improve my culinary skills to make it to the top together with my partner Next Year.

PANCAKES




I chose pancakes

Pancakes are simple-to-make and tasty-to-eat.


The appearance of the pancakes is yellowish-brown with a maple n fruit toppings!


The taste is sweet and salty , it would be a just-nice snack for the day.


Having 3 pancakes per serving is enough for a meal.


My weaknesses is the less amount of Patience and skill on cooking.


I also have my strength, by making the mixture step by step is the best task that i had done. decorating also my strength.

STRENGTHS



  1. My friends commented this dish is very delicious and looks very appetizing.

WEAKNESSES




  1. The tartlet base did not come out in the shape of a tart(it came out as a round puffy bun XP) because I forgot to pierce holes into the pastry before putting it in the oven.(Fortunately the dish was still successful)

Pizza Margherita by Jen Yik

Strengths:

1. I have used the ingerdients in a correct and orderly manner which enables the pizza to achieve the best taste and flavour.

2. I heated the pizza until the correct timing, giving it optimum results.

3. I had all my steps planned and ready so as to create a delicious pizza.

Weakness:

1. I was not careful enough in sprinkiling the cheese over the pizza dough, causing some shreds of the cheese to fall onto the oily pan.

2. I needed some help of my partner to complete the practical, which was not good as it was supoosed to be an individual work.

Gavin Yong - chicken rendang

weaknesses : for my practical exam, my weaknesses are that my time management was not good, and did not have enough time to let the rnedang reduce. i also did not take notice of the amount of utensils that had to be washed and therefore did alot of last minute washing.

strength : for my practical exam, my strengths were that i had kitchen experience, therefore was able to prepare the dish with ease. i think my pl;atig was presetable and i manage to pull it off in time. me and my partner Jordan managed to get the ingrediets fast ad help each other along the way as we are making the same dish. in conclusion, although there was room for improvement, it was preety good, and i am satisfied with my work.

Pancake

I do pancake because it save time, and when i am free i can also cook for my friends. I also can teach them if they want to learn.If i am in a hurry i can just cook Pancake and it is enough to fill my tummy .When doing pancake i am a bit scared at first but in the end i manage to did a quiet good job. Although taste a bit salty but it still taste great especially with the maple syrup it makes the pancake taste sweet . I share my pancake with my friends also but some part of the pancake taste a bit salty because the part was without maple syrup.To me it still taste nice. But there are some difficulties when doing pancake because it is hard to overturn the pancake and it's hard to make it a round shape, although in the end my pancake was not in round shape but it still look like a round shape.Teacher also help to me to cut the strawberry and to decorate the pancake make me feel like wanted to finished it immediately.Its appearance is a bit brown with some black dots, it look tasty.

Teriyaki Chicken Mark Lai 2E1B

Strength:

1. I have practised cooking Teriyaki Chicken at home before.
2. I have received reviews and comments from my parents and they told me how I can improve the dish.
3. I timed my practise taken to make the dish so on the actual day I could estimate how long it would take to finish my dish.

Weakness:

1. I was not careful about taking out the chicken basting and needed my friend, Jen Yik to help me take out the chicken.

2. I did not time how long it would take to finish my clean up.

CHAWANMUSHI




Ingredients:



3 eggs, 500cc dashi (ichiban-dashi), 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon usukuchi (lightly flavored) soy sauce, 50 g sasami chicken meat, 4 shrimps, 50 g shimeji mushrooms, 4 slices of kamaboko, half stalk of mitsuba (trefoil), yuzu (citron) peel.




Preparation:




  1. Making egg mixture

  2. Break eggs in a large ball. Draw the letter Z on the bottom with the tip of the chopsticks, do not foam.

  3. Little by little, add cooled dashi and then salt, soy sauce.

  4. To improve texture, strain egg through a net.


Filling




  1. Remove white sinewy tissue from sasami chicken meat. Cut into bite size pieces. Sprinkle with soy sauce.

  2. Remove black vein from shrimps. Devine except for tail. (see "seafood preparation")

  3. Remove roots of shimeji mushrooms, tear into easy to eat pieces.

  4. Cut mitsuba (trefoil) into 3cm pieces.

  5. Thinly slice peel of yuzu.


How to make:



  1. Prepare 4 Chawan mushi serving cups. If serving cups with lids are not available, use tea cup covered with aluminum foil.

  2. Divide fillings into 4 except for mitsuba and yuzu strips, neatly place filling and kamaboko slices in individual cups.

  3. Pour in egg mixture.

  4. Fill a double-boiler pan (mushiki) half full with water.

  5. When water comes to a boil, place cups in to steam.

  6. Cover with cheesecloth, place lid slightly off so that steam can escape.

  7. Heat 1-2 minutes on a strong fire, reduce heat and cook for an additional 12-15 minutes. If the fire is too strong or if steamed too long, Chawan mushi becomes spongy, loses flavor and attractiveness.

  8. Insert bamboo stick to check readiness. If clear liquid rises Chawan mushi is ready.

  9. Take cups out of steamer. Top with mitsuba and yuzu, re-cover.

  10. Chawan mushi is served chilled in summer, hot in winter.

Evaluation:

Chawanmushi is a popular Jappaness dish, one that is mostly ordered as an appetizer at Japanese restaurants.


I realised that the Japaness Chawamushi" s recipe is simmilar with the Chinese steam egg. The different is that we usually dosen't put sea food or meet in Chinese steam egg. But for Japaness Chawamushi, for developing its taste, we offent add in some other food and either for decoraction propers to make it looking good.



During cooking, I fond out that it is difficult to make them look perfectly and silky smooth. The herb we add, which had doen a good job for making aroma. It make the dish smell pretty good...


I am very pleased with the results.

Texture:


soft and crispy,rough and crispy at the crust


Appearance:


colourful,tasty looking,creative,all the ingredients was all in equal amounts


except for the cheese that was accidentally placed in large amounts.


Taste:


Juicy,I was not actually able to taste it as it was during the fasting month but my friends tasted it and they said it was very cheesy and at the same time full of the taste of herbs.


smell:


The smell can almost be compared to the famous Pizza hut but it's smell is much for full of aroma as i added seaweed in the last minute together with the chicken


strengths:


The great amount of cheese with the addition of chicken and seaweed into the pizza made it much more tasty,nicer looking and the aroma is very fragrant.


Weaknesses:


Took up alot of time just to make a simple pizza.Ingredients are no in equal amounts and so the taste is not really balanced and this will not also taste like an original pizza.

My Strength :








  • Able to understand the recipe.




  • Had a great a partner to work with although she nags a lot.




  • I did not mess up a lot of the steps.







My Weaknesssess :












  • I kept worrrying about how the dish would turns up later.




  • I had a difficulty in time management.




  • I had missed out a step which makes my fruit tartlets did not look like fruit tartlets which was to poke holes in the pastry before baking it.







My Spanish Omelette (: !



Hey There !





My evaluation for Home Economics, 2011 !



My strenghts were that my friends smelt it, and said it was fragrant. Some said it smelt good too! But in my opinion, it tasted rather weird. I still think that there was room for improvement.

My weakness was that a lot of things went wrong along, and my dish turned out to be abit overcooked. As i did not manage my time well, I was panicking most of the time, and was quite unsure of what to do.

Decision making


I chose this recipe because i like to eat omelette, but i do not know how to cook it. Therefore, i want to learn it. As it is a one-dish meal, it is healthier, time-saving and convenient. The omelette consists of meat and vegetables, which has all the required minerals, and other nutrients for our body. It has garlic, potato, egg, onions, salt and pepper. Another reason is because i like spanish food as it is delicious.



Fun Facts!


The history of the Sapnish omelette: During the was, Zumalacarregui was in the field and happened upon a farmhouse and demanded a meal from the wife. All she had was a few eggs, a potato and an onion, so she combined all three making an omelette. Surprisingly, Zumalacarregui was pleased and took the idea with him.

Overall, i think it was fun making this omelette!


Udon Suki - Leow Min Chon

Sensory evalution

Color: the Udon is very light brown, the crabsticks are red on the top and white on the bottom, the fishcakes are pink on the top and white on the bottom and the seaweed is black.

Taste: It tastes quite good as the miso paste greatly improves the taste.


Appearance: The placement of the crabsticks and fishcakes are near the middle of the Udon Suki while the seaweed are sprinkled all around the Udon Suki. It looks very appealing and delicious.


Smell: There is no smell at all.


Strength:


Easy-to-cook dish as it only contained about five ingredients and the instructions are clear and simple.


Fast-to-cook dish as it took about thirty minutes to finish.


Easy preparation of ingredients as only the fishcakes and crabsticks needs to be sliced.


Enough time remaining for other duties like washing the equipments and decorating the dish.


Know how to test whether the Udon is cook. To test, use a chopsticks to slice it in half. If it is cooked, it'll be sliced into two easily.


Weakness


Sliced the crabsticks and fishcakes a bit inaccurately, not in straight slices but triangular in shape.


Simple decoration of the dish as only seaweed could be used.


Unsure on how long to boil the Udon until I asked the teacher.

Pancakes

My strengths in the practical i did were i could understand and was able to execute the recipe of the dish. The dish was easy to cook. I could handle the pressure put on me by my teacher to finish the dish as fast as possible due to time constraint. Another of my strength is I was able to carry out the steps of the dish accurately. Ther dish I did was kind of great even though it is the first time i was trying to cook a pancake. Overall I think the cooking experience I had this term was awesome and fun.

I have my weaknesses as well. I could not control the flame while I was cooking the pancakes. When i mixed the mixture together, it was too watery and the amount of oil I apply to the pan was too much. I was too nervous while doing the dish. I did not have time management. The dish I cooked was almost charred. I also struggled with the dish.

Sensory Evaluation: I did not get to eat it as I was fasting, but my friends tasted it and said it tasted good, it was cheesy and the crust was crispy. The last minute addition of minced meat turned out well too.


Color: Brown and Yellow


Texture: Soft and Chewy, Crust is Crispy


Appearence: Was unique, not too much cheese, meats and tomato and vegetables were arranged creatively


Smell: Smelled great, can be compared to Pizza Hut, melted cheese tasted good too.


Strengths: The grating of cheese went well and the cheese was spread out evenly, instead of large strips of cheese in the middle, the baking time was just write and the addition of Meat was good too.


Weaknesses: I spent too much time grating the meat, and I did not know how to cut the vegetables and required assistance.


I will improve my cooking and also learn more about Food Nutrition to create a tastier and healthier dish next time.

    Smell: It Smell Good, Why? Because We Washed The Rice Very Clean And The Cucumber, Crab Stick.





    Strengths: Me And Syafiq Did A Great Team Work When We Were Cooking For Our Pratical Exam.





    Weaknesse: Me And Syafiq Did Not Cooperate One And Another.






    Next Time In Sec 2 We Will Do Better.

    Taste : Our nasi briyani taste is nice and very delicious.
    Colour : yellow , red , light green & dark green , raisins black.
    Appearance : It's nice put at the circle plate , the colour atr colourfull .
    Texture : Dry , hot and wet .
    Smell : It smell nicer than the outside Foodcourt , it can smell one whole
    classroom .

    Strenght : We can cut all ingredient into slices , we can cook well , can arrange
    the food at plate nicely , we can cook ourselves .

    Weakness :
    We don't know to open the fire , cut the chicken properly , don't know
    ingredients.

    Next time in Sec 2 we will do better :

    3. We want to get professional teacher to teach us.

    Taste: The taste of my Nasi Lemak is very nice and the sambal tumis is very spicy forget to wash the ikan Bilis..

    Appearance:It Is very Nice and Neat and and it stand up like a white beautiful price..


    smell:It smell really good Like Nasi Lemak..


    texture:THE Egg is cripsy and the rice is to much water..

    Sushi

    Sensory Evaluation:
    Taste: Our sushi taste is salty and it also have a quite nice taste,but when you eat outside resturant it have diffrent type of taste example; salty spicy and delicious. Every sushi of rice is quite nice as they put rice vineger or sugar so it become so delicious.

    Colour: the colour of sushi is black,white and red and some of sushi when you eat in restaurant it have orangegreen and red colour.

    Texture:Our sushi was quite hard when i ate, especially the vegetable inside the sushi is quite hard. it should be evry sticky.

    Appearance:Our sushi round and dark,it is not much colour but inside of sushi it like a rainbow because it contain different pattern.

    smell:Every sushi have a nice smell it all depends on what the ingrediant you put on sushi.our sushi smell is smell quite good the most good on our sushi is crabstick it have nice smell,and it makes the sushi more colourful and delicious.

    strength:My friend and i cook the food so happiness, as we are do different things, for example one of them wash the dish and one cooking.As we believe if we continou to do groupwork we can do easily and fast,and it also can make more nicer.

    Weaknesses:When i cannot opn the fire tape and when i do not know the ingrediant that i should put on each food, my friends are all very glad to teach.
    Next time in secondary 2 i will do better on how to cook the food and remember the ingrediant that teacher taught when we were cook in school.=)and learn more healthy sources on the food that we eat. And try to learn different race food.
